FACULTY/STAFF APPRECIATION EVENT A BIG HIT

Congratulations to Lorna Gibson, Assistant Director Labor & Employee Relations, Chris Sharp, Events, Marketing and Development Coordinator, and the Human Resources team on an outstanding event. This year's Faculty/Staff Appreciation event, which took place on Saturday, November 19th, was the biggest and best ever! Those attending had a fantastic time and were thrilled with all the great food and fun activities. We appreciate everyone's hard work and commitment to making this annual event a huge success.

NEWLY COMPLETED USF ATHLETIC COMPLEX RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD

Athletics ComplexThe USF Athletics Complex was selected as a winner in the 2011 NAIOP (National Association of Industrial & Office Properties) "Best of the Best" Awards competition in the category for Outstanding Special Use Category – Public Sector. The NAIOP is a national organization with a Tampa Chapter and is considered to be the "who's who" of the real estate, design and construction industries.

The USF Athletics project was a massive facelift, one of the largest undertaken on a single college campus at one time with just about every competitive venue affected. The awards presentation will take place on December 7th at the Westin Harbour Island Hotel in Tampa.

Please join us in congratulating Ray Gonzalez and J.T. McCaffrey, Project Managers, and the rest of the Facilities Planning & Construction team for the role they played in this major project receiving national recognition!

CUSTOMER SERVICE "STARS"

Physical Plant received praise from Dean Eric Eisenberg for its help with securing a refurbished golf cart for the College of Arts & Sciences. Dean Eisenberg and his staff were most impressed when they saw the work the Physical Plant team put into the project. The refurbished golf cart will be used by the Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In his letter commending Physical Plant for a job well done, Dean Eisenberg extended a special "thank you" to Paul Combast, Manager, and Ray Curbelo, Assistant Manager, Building & Maintenance Services, for the professional and polite manner in which they quickly handled the project.

We greatly appreciate the excellent customer provided by Paul, Ray, and the rest of the Physical Plant team who worked to make this happen for the College of Arts & Sciences.

KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS AN EXCEPTIONAL EMPLOYEE? DON'T KEEP IT A SECRET!

Do you have a colleague or colleagues who demonstrated excellence and a high level of performance during 2011? If so, please don't keep it a secret! Nominations for the 2011 Outstanding Staff Awards are being accepted now until February 3, 2012.

Two new awards have been added this year: A Student Success Award will recognize extraordinary efforts and direct impact to positively affecting student success. A Team Award will promote collaboration and innovation, recognizing the accomplishments of a major project completed by multiple employees.

The Outstanding Staff Awards ceremony will take place on March 29, 2012. With a spring ceremony the successes of an outstanding employee or team of employees will be fresher in the nominator's mind. Conducting the ceremony in the spring will help the Outstanding Staff Awards "stand alone." Winners will get the attention and recognition they deserve without being lost in the busy fall semester.

Award recipients will be selected and nominators will be notified in late February. The nomination form and instructions are available online, or you may contact Chris Sharp at (813) 974-5396 or cssharp@usf.edu for more information.

We encourage you to nominate a colleague or colleagues who meet the criteria for USF's most prestigious award for staff and administration employees.

MASTER'S DEGREE ATTAINED

Paul Latham, USF Emergency Manager, will receive a Master's Degree in Education, Instructional Technology, on Friday, December 9th. Paul began working towards his master's degree in Fall 2010 and completed his course of study in just one year while working fulltime. His graduate research work and papers focused on social vulnerability and educating the public to survive disasters.

Please join us in congratulating Paul on this major accomplishment!

IT'S TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY

Holiday Party

FRIDAY FUN WITH COLLEAGUES

We recently got to see firsthand the camaraderie and fun the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) team shares on their "Frisbee Fridays." Meeting on the Intermural Fields on the west side of Juniper from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Frisbee novices and experts alike take to the field for a "strenuous" and sometimes sweaty workout.

The EH&S team gets in some good cardio exercise, has some great laughs, and just downright has fun playing Frisbee together. Enjoy these photos of the EH&S Team in action (or maybe not actually in action)! For more Frisbee action, visit Administrative Services' Photo Gallery.

USF GIVING TREE

There's still time to brighten a child's holiday by participating in the third annual USF Community Giving Tree. Employees in need can discreetly submit their children's gift wishes. Fellow USF employees have the ability to anonymously sponsor one or more of the children from the Giving Tree with a gift.

Gifts will be collected December 12-16 at locations around the Tampa campus and then distributed to the parents/guardians of the children December 21-22 in the Human Resources office (SVC 2172).

For more information about the USF Community Giving Tree, call 813.974.2970 or visit the USF Community Giving Tree website.
