INSPIRING STUDENTS' CAREER CHOICES

ehsOn June 8th the Division of Environmental Health and Safety teamed up with Dr. Rene Salazar from the USF College of Public Health to participate in the Sunshine ERC Summer Institute in Occupational Health and Safety. The safety professionals from EH&S shared their experiences and background with approximately 15 undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate studies in Environmental and Occupational Health. The presentation concluded with a tour of a laboratory in the Interdisciplinary Science Teaching and Research Facility.

RECEPTION HONORS QUIET QUALITY AWARD RECIPIENTS

The USF Staff Senate recognized the 2011-2012 award recipients at the 16th Annual reception held Friday, June 15th, at Traditions Hall in the Alumni Center. Betty Fontaine, Payroll Specialist, Human Resources, Clifton James, Sr. Shipping & Receiving Clerk, Physical Plant, and Orlando Ware, Custodial Worker, Physical Plant, were among those honored for their commitment to serving the USF community with pride.

Please join us in congratulating Betty, Clifton and Orlando on being Quiet Quality Award recipients!

SUPPORTING STUDENT SUCCESS

Lucinda English, Payroll Specialist, Payroll Department, Division of Human Resources, has been recognized by Paul Dosal, Vice President for Student Success, Office of Student Success, as a role model for creating the kind of campus environment that supports the success of its students. Drema Howard, Director of the USF Career Center, had witnessed Lucinda's interactions with a student and parents that were on campus for an orientation session. Lucinda noticed that they were confused and asked if she could help out with a warm "Welcome to USF."

Drema noted how the visitors responded so favorably to Lucinda's kind gesture and followed up by describing Lucinda's actions to Paul. This culminated in Paul sending a personal "thank you" to Lucinda. We'd also like to thank Lucinda for supporting the university's commitment to student success. We're sure the student and parents walked away with a very positive impression of USF's campus culture.

COMING SOON … COLLINS PARK

collins

As transformations continue across the USF Tampa Campus, Facilities Planning & Construction and Physical Plant are pleased to unveil the concept for "Collins Park," a beautiful outdoor space for the campus community to enjoy. An inviting urban park is currently under development and will be located along the Library's south façade.

Highlights you will find in the new park include a large sun shade structure, a tranquil fountain area, beautifully landscaped grounds, and plenty of gathering or "chilling" spots for kicking back and relaxing alone or with friends and colleagues.

The initiative is being led by Project Manager Tony Lourenco. The rest of the team members are Le Proctor, Bryan VanSant, Kim Tomkinson, Sheila Holbrook, and Karla Willman.

Collins Park is expected to be completed by the end of August. We'll keep you updated during the summer on the progress. We look forward to seeing you at Collins Park this fall.

BE STORM READY

usfreadyMore than 90 years have passed since the Tampa Bay area has been directly impacted by a major hurricane. Although hurricane forecasters are predicting an average or lower than average hurricane season this year (predicting 12 named storms), it only takes one storm to create disaster.

Hurricane preparedness is crucial for your survival from these destructive storms. Be storm ready and learn more about hurricane preparedness in the USF Hurricane Guide.

For more information regarding emergency preparedness, visit the Emergency Management website.
