UPThe USF Police Department has been awarded reaccredited status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). CFA is based in Tallahassee, Florida, and reviews all aspects of an agency's policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services to determine compliance with 263 recognized standards of excellence.

The Certificate of Reaccreditation was formally presented to USF Police Chief Tom Longo on September 27th at the Florida Police Accreditation Commission meeting in Sarasota. The USF Police Department was initially accredited in 2000 and subsequently reaccredited in 2003, 2006, and 2009.

Undergoing the voluntary state accreditation process provides an agency with a "quality assurance review" and encourages intense self-scrutiny, resulting in more efficient and effective daily operations. Becoming accredited is considered a significant accomplishment and the criminal justice community holds this status in high esteem.

Please join us in congratulating the USF Police Department on attaining reaccreditation.

EHSDuring National Fire Prevention Week (October 8-12), Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), in conjunction with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, conducted fire extinguisher training on Wednesday, October 10th. In addition to providing fire safety tips to the University community, representatives from EH&S and the Office of the State Fire Marshal conducted hands-on training to 123 participants in the proper use of a fire extinguisher. This year's participation was double that in 2011.

Participants in this year's training learned techniques that have the potential to save a life or prevent property damage, both at USF and in their homes. They also had the opportunity to register to win an Apple iPad following training. The lucky recipient of the iPad was USF student, Solon Harden, pictured here with the EH&S fire safety training team. For more photos from the training, visit this photo gallery.

Pink1On Friday, October 12th, Administrative Services was "Serving up Pink." There was great attendance at both the afternoon and the evening events. Employees enjoyed pink cupcakes, pink punch, and received pink wristbands. At both events, employees were wearing their pink in support of the pink warriors in their lives and to spread awareness. For photos from "Serving up Pink," visit this photo gallery.

Pink2Friday, October 19th, we were "Planting Pink" in support of breast cancer awareness and to honor the brave warriors in our lives. Beautiful pink flowers were planted in the shape or a pink ribbon by employees from Administrative Services, our campus partners from Campus Recreation and Wellness USF, as well as other USF students and staff who walked by the location. Pink lemonade was provided to beat the heat. Special thanks to Kim Tomkinson and her team for getting the planting area ready for the event – they even dug the holes for us. For photos from "Planting Pink," visit this photo gallery.

pumpkinOur last Pink Friday on October 26th is sure to prove to be great fun – "Challenging Pink" - a Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Each area in Administrative Services has been provided with a starter kit that contains pumpkin(s), paint, brushes and a few decorations to get the teams started. Teams can add whatever else to make their pumpkin complete. Pumpkins will be judged by how well they honor the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Prizes will be given to the winning teams who will be judged by their peers.

Help us select the winners at one of these Pink Friday events on the 26th:
Behind OPM - 3:00 p.m.—3:30 p.m. and at MHB 102 (FMHI Physical Plant) - 6:00 p.m.—6:30 p.m.

benefitsThe 2013 Open Enrollment Benefits Fair held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, was a great event for both employees and vendors. Nearly 1,600 USF employees visited the fair to speak with the 67 vendors representing health, dental, vision and life insurance companies, as well as USF affiliates and businesses offering employee perks and discounts.

If you were unable to attend the Benefits Fair and have questions about Open Enrollment, please consider attending one of the Open Enrollment Help Sessions. Sessions will take place in the Organizational Development Computer Lab, SVC 2068, and will last approximately one hour. For Help Session dates and times, visit this website.

Please bring your People First ID and password as well as the personal information for your spouse and any dependents (including Social Security number, date of birth and marriage documentation). To register for a help session, please send an e-mail to benefits@admin.usf.edu with your top two preferred dates to attend.
