Special Scenarios

Home School

Many of USF’s best students have graduated from home education programs.  Home schooled students are held to the same admission criteria as their peers graduating from traditional high schools:

High school transcript - It is important to note that the transcript must be a single document prepared by the official that validates the high school graduation (typically a parent).  USF will consider a transcript with a signature from the home school official and graduation date as official and final, albeit a portfolio or additional documentation relating to the description of each class and instructional methods may be required to complete an appropriate evaluation for admission.

  • Classes may be taken via a combination of instructional methods including virtual school, dual enrollment (in other colleges or universities) or home school instruction.  However, as a home schooled student you must provide a single transcript that combines all coursework on one document that is validated by a signature of a home school official.
  • The transcript should include the name of each course taken, units earned (most academic subjects are worth one unit (full year or instruction), most electives are worth ½ of a unit (one semester of instruction) and instructional method.
  • An official SAT or ACT score (including SAT essay or ACT writing).

Additional factors are also considered for home schooled students.

GED

Applicants who have earned a GED diploma will be considered based on the following:

  • An overall score of at least 300 for all five tests and at least 50 on each of the five tests is the minimum requirement for consideration.
  • An SAT or ACT score (including SAT essay or ACT writing) must be submitted.
  • A personal statement and/or essay is encouraged.
  • A high school transcript with secondary coursework taken before earning the GED may be requested.
  • Other admission factors may also be considered, if applicable.
  • Meeting minimum GED requirements does not guarantee admission.
