USF Riverfront Park, Tampa FL

Location: All adventure race elements will take place in USF Riverfront Park, Tampa, FL.  Riverfront Park is located approximately two miles west of I-75.

 

Eligibility: Open to University of South Florida affiliates and the community, ages 18 and older.  To receive the USF Affiliate entry fee, a valid USF ID (student, staff, or faculty) must be presented at time of registration.  Entry fee and waiver must accompany SIGNED application form.  Complete ALL information below, as well as accompanying waiver.  Completed application and entry fee may be turned into the Intramural Sports Office (located in the Campus Recreation Center) or mailed in to the address below waiver.

 

Event Information: The USF Charging Bull offers 2 – 4 hours of challenges specifically design for the location. Teams of two (Co-Rec and M/F) can expect exciting challenges and a lot of fun! Canoes, paddles, and PFDs will be provided for teams (Teams must use provided canoes).  The course will be partially marked, but for other sections, you must navigate using a map and compass. The fun starts at 9:00 AM with first teams expected to cross the finish line around 11:00 – 11:30 AM, an awards ceremony will follow at 1:00 PM.

 

Date, Time, Location: February 23, 2008 – 9:00 AM – USF Riverfront Park located on Fletcher Avenue

 

Race Check-in: 7:00 – 8:30 AM  

 

Pre-Race Meeting: Friday, February 22nd – 6:00 PM – USF Riverfront Park

 

Divisions: Men’s, Women’s and Co-Rec (all teams consist of two participants, no solo division)

 

Entry Fee: USF Affiliate - $20 per person (current student, faculty/staff)

        Community Affiliate - $40 per person

 

Entries: A limited number of spaces are available, so sign up early! 

 

Entry Due Date: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 by 4:00 PM

 

Awards: Prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 finishers in each division (Men’s, Women’s, and Co-Rec).  Awards will be presented at the Post-Race Event on Saturday, February 23rd as soon as the race has been completed by all teams (approximately 1:00 PM).  Charging Bull Adventure Race t-shirts will be given to all participants, as well as a consolation package on Race Day.

 

Mandatory Equipment Per Person: All participants are required to bring the following items to Race Day:

  • Hydration System adequate for carrying at least 50-70 oz. (i.e. Camelback) – must be worn at all times unless otherwise notified
  • Calorie Intake – teams must have enough food to last 3 hours
  • Mountain Bike and Helmet – to be carried on bike section only
  • Bike Tube – to be carried on bike section only

 

Mandatory Equipment Per Team: All teams are required to bring the following items to Race Day:

  • Whistle (in case of emergency)
  • Bike Repair Kit – patch kit, bike multi-tool, pump, tire tools, etc. (in case of emergency) – to be carried on bike section only
  • First Aid Kit – pain reliever, electrolyte/endurolyte, antibiotic ointment, gauze pad, tape, etc. (in case of emergency)
  • Canoes will be provided by race sponsors – teams must use provided canoes.

 

Recommended Gear: It is strongly recommended that participants wear the following:

  • Long Pants (Poly Pro or Supplex)
  • Bike Gloves, Full-Finger Gloves
  • Bug Spray, Sunscreen, Sunglasses
  • Compass
  • Map Case
  • Pen/Marker

 

Safety: Adventure Racing is a challenging sport, and teamwork and good sportsmanship are necessary parts of ensuring safety at the event.  Please pay attention to not only your teammate but other participants as well.  If someone needs help, courteously stop and assist them to the best of your ability.  Also, please come prepared not only physically, but mentally and logistically.  Specific safety considerations include: dehydration/hyponatremia, exposure/hypothermia, leptosporosis/other bacteria, wildlife (birds, snakes, spiders, mosquitoes, etc.), and travel through rugged terrain (twisted ankles, sprains, cuts, bruises, etc.).  In terms of weather, expect anything; it may be hot, humid, cold, windy, or wet.  Please be prepared for any type of weather to occur at any point during the day.  Check local weather forecasts before the event.  We will have at least one Wilderness First Responder on site and access to local emergency rescue; however, it is also suggested that at least one member of each team be First Aid certified.

 

Registration: Please print the entry form and waiver from the link below.  All entry forms, waivers, and fees must be submitted to the Intramural Sports Office (in the Campus Recreation Center) by Wednesday, February 13, 2008 by 4:00 PM.  Entries, waivers, and fees can also be submitted by mail:
