NADOHE – National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education
NADOHE is the professional organization of senior and chief diversity officers in higher education.
On February 12, 2007 in Washington DC the birth of a new association that promises to be a great communicator for diversity work in higher education was born. The National Association for Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) is an affiliate of the American Council on Education (ACE) and ready to embark as a national forum for best practices in diversity in higher education.
The University of South Florida is one of 86 charter institutions, thus reflecting the work that was contributed to the planning of the organization over three years. In July 2006, Dr. Jose Hernandez, USF’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion, represented USF in the “Caretakers Committee” for final tweaking of the organization’s goals.
NADOHE will begin publishing the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education within a year. Meanwhile the organization is under the care of a twenty member Board of Directors that represent 20 universities nationally. Dr. Bill Harvey, Vice President for Diversity & Equity at the University of Virginia is the elected President. Dr. Harvey is the former head of the Center for Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity in ACE. NADOHE’s annual conference will likely continue in conjunction with ACE’s national conference in February. Meanwhile we encourage you to visit their website www.nadohe.org for additional information and join a passionate group of leaders with deep roots in education and diversity.
