New in HR

April 1, 2007
Classification Redesign Project
The
Classification Redesign Project roll out has begun with the changes
taking effect on April 20th. A new area of the HR website
devoted entirely to
Classification Redesign launched March 23rd and has
received over 26,000 hits in less than 2 weeks. The new Classification
site provides detailed information about the classification redesign and
new job classification descriptions.
In the next
few weeks HR will offer several “town hall” meetings for employees to
meet with representatives from HR to learn more about the overall
project (not specific individual results) from the origins of the
project to the final implementation (dates and times to be announced).
For more
information, visit the
Classification Redesign website. If you have questions or concerns
about your own classification, please talk with your immediate
supervisor. For other questions, contact JD Needham, Assistant Director
of HR Services at 974-5719.

Take Back The Night Comes to
USF
T he
first ever Take Back the Night event at the University of
South Florida will be Tuesday April 10th from 6 – 9 PM on MLK
Plaza outside the Marshall Center. Take Back the Night is a protest
against rape and violence against women. TBTN activities will include a
speak-out, candlelight vigil, memory wall, informational speakers, as
well as food, handouts, and live music.
April is recognized
nationwide as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and is a time for
communities to gather together and show support for those impacted by
sexual violence. Other activities in April include the 5th
Annual Take Back the Night Candle Light Vigil and March on Thursday,
April 12, 2007. This moving event will begin at 7pm at Temple Terrace
United Methodist Church, located at 5030 E. Busch Blvd. in Tampa. The
Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, in partnership with the Florida Department
of Health, will host the Candle Light Vigil and March, joining 25
Florida communities in honoring sexual assault survivors and their loved
ones in Tampa.
Keynote speaker Tony
Porter is an educator and activist working in the social justice arena
for over twenty years. He is internationally recognized for his effort
to end men's violence against women. Porter is the co-founder of A
Call To Men, a leading national men's organization addressing men's
violence against women, and the eradication of sexism, while maintaining
strong coalitions with women's organizations already doing this
important work. Porter is currently working with numerous domestic
violence and sexual assault coalitions, colleges and universities around
the country. He has worked with the United States Military Academy at
West Point and the United States Navel Academy at Annapolis.
According to national statistics, a sexual assault
occurs every 90 seconds in this country. In Florida, one out of every
nine women has been the victim of sexual assault. Based on this
analysis by researchers for the National Violence Against Women
Prevention Research Center, there are estimated to be about 43,000 rapes
victims in Hillsborough County. The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay’s Nurse
Examiner Program and APPLE Trauma Response Center have provided medical
services and counseling to many of those victims. If you or someone you
know has been the victim of sexual assault, help is available in
Hillsborough County by calling 2-1-1 from any landline and most wireless
phones.
The events held throughout Florida in
April have been made possible through the support of the Florida Council
Against Sexual Violence, Inc. (FCASV), a statewide advocacy agency
dedicated to making changes that better serve rape victims and combat
the devastating impact of sexual assault. Funding was provided by the
Florida Department of Health's Sexual Violence Prevention Program
through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control. Survivors of
sexual assault can be put in touch with rape crisis centers in their
community by calling the FCASV hotline, (888) 956-7273 or visiting their
website at
www.fcasv.org.

Cheryl Fitzpatrick at the USF Advocacy Program at 974-5758.
