ODT INTRODUCES NEW TOOLS

ODT is pleased to announce a new set of Tools for the Trainers around campus.  Many USF staff positions include the responsibility of training others – both on the USF staff, in the community, and/or client groups.  Although subject matter expertise is a great asset, it is not enough to ensure effectiveness as a trainer.  Good trainers are not only proficient in the skills that they teach; they are also dynamic presenters, skilled facilitators, and patient coaches.

The ODT “Tools for Trainers” learning series will help participants develop the core competencies needed to successfully lead training programs.  Through the workshops below, participants will learn to present with confidence, facilitate meaningful discussions and learning experiences, and design programs that help participants achieve their learning goals.  The workshops are:

  • Engaging the Adult Learner (TRN100) – March 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

  • Trainer’s Presentation Skills (TRN200) – April 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

  • Trainer’s Facilitation Skills (TRN300)– May 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

  • The Trainer’s Design Workshop (TRN400)– June 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

Please also visit the ODT website at www.usf.edu/odt to see our Tools for Leaders workshops.  Registration for all ODT workshops is through GEMS Self Service located at Home>Employee Self Service>Training and Development>Request Training Enrollment.

W-2’s DISTRIBUTED TO ALL EMPLOYEES

Approximately 17,216 W-2’s were successfully distributed to USF employees the last week of January.  As you may or may not know, this is the second year that this has been done from the University Payroll Office in Tampa.  Prior to last year, the W-2’s were distributed directly from Tallahassee to all employees.  Should anyone have any questions about their W-2 or need duplicate copies, please contact Payroll.

Address Changes-  It is important that employees provide the most accurate information possible in regards to home/mailing addresses.  Many critical communications are mailed directly to your home/mailing address (including benefits information and W-2’s), and it is imperative that this information be correctly reflected in GEMS.  There are a number of ways that you can correct or ensure that the right information is in GEMS.  You may use GEMS Self Service and make any corrections by simply entering the data yourself, or you may also opt to contact HR or Payroll directly to make a change.

DOMESTIC PARTNER BENEFITS

As many of you have heard, USF will be investigating the possibility of creating a domestic partner health-care related benefits package that will be offered to our community (all regular employees).  While many of the details have not yet been determined, we have posted a listing of “Frequently Asked Questions” that we’ve received from the community, and believe it may help answer some initial questions that you may have.

That FAQ can be located at
http://usfweb2.usf.edu/HR/Benefits/DP_FAQ.htm

As more information becomes available, it will be shared with the community.

ALLEGATIONS CONCERNING SECURITY OF STATE EMPLOYEE
PERSONAL INFORMATION

USF has been made aware of a potential security breach involving Convergys, the vendor that operates People First, the state personnel system. Specific allegations include releasing state employee personal information to a subcontractor for scanning and cataloging purposes and inappropriately accessing and viewing state employee personal information.

Tom Lewis, Secretary for the Department of Management Services (DMS), states in his letter that Legislative, university, and other employees who are “benefits only” participants of the People First system (which includes the University of South Florida) were not subject to the allegation of subcontracting.  This allegation only applied to payroll records.  It is also important to clarify that Florida Retirement System (FRS) records are not subject to these recent allegations.

While this does not impact State University employees, DMS has found no evidence to date that state employee personal information was transferred to a subcontractor in question or evidence that state employee personal information has been compromised as a result of inappropriate system access.  However, DMS is aggressively continuing to investigate these allegations.

I urge you to read the response from DMS Secretary Tom Lewis so that you will know the steps being taken to strengthen the security of the state personnel system.  He has also provided information on steps you can take to protect yourself again identity theft.

HR will remain in close contact with DMS through this process and will keep you informed of any further developments.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact HR Benefits at 947-2970.
