HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT (HSA) FEE

Employees who participate in the Health Investor Health Plan and who enroll in the Health Savings Account (HSA) should be aware that there is a monthly fee associated with the Account.  Tallahassee State Bank, who administers the HSA, will charge a maintenance fee of $3.00 every statement cycle (monthly) if the balance in your HSA falls below $5,000.00 any day of the statement cycle.

Employees who enroll in the HSA must complete the HSA Application and return it directly to Tallahassee State Bank for processing. Please note that an employee’s HSA cannot be established and employer contributions start until the Application is processed and approved.  The HSA Application and Disclosure Package can be obtained through the People First website at https://peoplefirst.myflorida.com or by calling People First at 1-866-663-4735. The information regarding the maintenance fee is included in the “Truth in Savings Disclosure” in the HSA Application and Disclosure package.

For more information regarding the HSA, contact People First or your Benefits Office.

IRS RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION LIMITS FOR 2006

USF offers all employees (A&P, Faculty, USPS and OPS) the opportunity to participate in a Tax Sheltered Annuity (403b) and a State Deferred Compensation program (457). The contributions an employee makes into these programs are regulated by the IRS. The 2006 IRS retirement contribution limits are listed below:

Elective deferrals into a 403b, (which would also include employee contributions for those participating in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP):   $15,000

Elective deferral into a 457:  $15,000

If an employee is age 50 or over, they are eligible to contribute an additional $5,000 into each plan which would increase the total limit to $20,000 for the year.

An employee may also qualify to contribute an additional amount if they have at least 15 years of service with USF. Please contact your Provider Company to calculate if an additional amount can be contributed. If you need to make any changes to your deduction amounts, please contact the Human Resources Retirement office at (813) 974-5718.

USF has implemented a monitoring system that will automatically turn-off your contributions once the IRS limits listed above have been reached for the year.  If the contributions are stopped by the monitoring system during the year, they will restart automatically on January 1, 2007.

ODT INTRODUCES NEW TOOLS

ODT is pleased to announce a new set of Tools for the Trainers around campus.  Many USF staff positions include the responsibility of training others – both on the USF staff, in the community, and/or client groups.  Although subject matter expertise is a great asset, it is not enough to ensure effectiveness as a trainer.  Good trainers are not only proficient in the skills that they teach; they are also dynamic presenters, skilled facilitators, and patient coaches.

The ODT “Tools for Trainers” learning series will help participants develop the core competencies needed to successfully lead training programs.  Through the workshops below, participants will learn to present with confidence, facilitate meaningful discussions and learning experiences, and design programs that help participants achieve their learning goals.  The workshops are:

  • Engaging the Adult Learner (TRN100) – March 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

  • Trainer’s Presentation Skills (TRN200) – April 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

  • Trainer’s Facilitation Skills (TRN300)– May 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

  • The Trainer’s Design Workshop (TRN400)– June 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

Please also visit the ODT website at www.usf.edu/odt to see our Tools for Leaders workshops.  Registration for all ODT workshops is through GEMS Self Service located at Home>Employee Self Service>Training and Development>Request Training Enrollment.
