Second Dutch Dialogue with Tampa Bay on Climate Change Adaptation: Building resiliency and sustainability into infrastructure and spatial planning
November 18, 2009; 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM; USF Alumni Center
Co-organized with the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commision and the Dutch water sector, the November 18 workshop will feature Dutch and local experts discussing climate change adaptation from the perspectives of land use, transportation, water, energy, emergency management and cyberinfrastructure sectors. This second workshop follows the highly successful first Dutch Dialogue meeting last June which helped advance the climate change adaptation discussion in Tampa Bay.

Using Prehistoric Archaeology to Study Modern Biodiversity
January 21, 2010; 7:00-8:00 PM; Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center, St. Petersburg, Florida
A lecture by David Steadman (Florida Museum of Natural History) in the “Archaeology Speaker Series,” sponsored by the Central Gulf Coast Archaeological Society (the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Florida Anthropological Society) in cooperation with Weedon Island Preserve. Admission is free and open to the public.

Tampa Bay Green Business Summit

The Green Business Summit targets members of the business community seeking to learn about opportunities and risk management of green business in the wake of impending climate change legislation and litigation. The green business revolution offers businesses both challenges and opportunities. This event is free to the public and will identify business strategies for coping with the challenges and taking advantage of the business opportunities.

Lonsesome George and the Battle for Galapagos
October 27, 2009, 6:00-7:30 PM, CHE 217, University of South Florida

The Patel Center for Global Solutions and USF’s Department of Integrative Biology invite you to a special evening featuring Dr. Peter Pritchard who will present the documentary, Lonesome George and the Battle for Galapagos, and answer questions following the film. The documentary is about the loneliest animal on the planet, Lonesome George, who is the last remaining Pinta Island Giant Tortoise in existence; when he dies, his race will be extinct. He has become an icon of his native Galapagos Islands and a symbol of the battle to preserve their unique wildlife which is under threat from illegal fishing, the demands of a booming population and an ever-expanding tourism industry. USF ConservaBull

Emerging Green Builders, in collaboration with the USF Physical Plant, the USF Office of Sustainability, and USF Housing and Residential Education, are hosting ConservaBull 2009. The residence hall that reduces its energy consumption by the largest percentage from the same previous period wins custom ConservaBull T-Shirts and a chance to win an iPod. The ConservaBull is not about touting sustainability or “greenness.” It's about raising our consumption conscience. We have enjoyed almost unlimited resources and have adapted our lifestyle accordingly. Most often we are not even aware of our wasteful habits. Lead by example. Keep your Hall motivated! Institute on Engaged Scholarship and Community Redevelopment

USF is joining with Florida Campus Compact to hold an Institute on Engaged Scholarship and Community Redevelopment on the USF Tampa campus on October 30th. It’s a great opportunity for our faculty and community partners to create or fine-tune their community-based courses for the coming year, and a stipend is available. The Global Water Crisis: Solutions from Tampa Bay
