Community            Enrollment Projections Request

MEMORANDUM

DATE:           April 2, 2004

TO:             State University System Presidents

FROM:           Debra Austin, Chancellor

SUBJ:           Enrollment Projections

As part of the development of the strategic plan for the university system and in order to better support current and future budget requests, we will be asking universities to provide program-level plans for enrollments and degrees for the next ten years as part of the annual enrollment planning update.  Without this level of input from the universities, it is impossible to have a clear picture of the direction in which the system is collectively headed.

You will receive more detailed specifications for the plans by April 22, with a deadline for submission of June 28, but it is vital that campuses begin gathering the information before key faculty and staff leave for the summer.  The essential components will consist of planned headcount enrollments and degrees awarded, by level and program (six-digit CIP code) for 2004-05 through 2013-14, along with the same planned FTE enrollments by level and branch data as you have provided in the past.  The new headcount and degree request would include programs that are in the planning or development stage as well as those that already have students.

We will also ask you to comment on the list of targeted programs in the current draft of the "Y-Axis" and to indicate which of your own programs you intend to target for increased enrollment or degree production.  Provision will be made for an "unknown" or "unallocated" group of student enrollments and degrees, along with a list of contemplated degree programs into which they might fit.

I appreciate the cooperative spirit in which universities have worked with the Board of Governors and with DCU staff in the development of a statewide strategic plan and look forward to continuing our collaboration as we take the next step.  If you have any comments or questions about the process, please contact Nancy McKee, Vice Chancellor for Policy and Research, or Nate Johnson, Director of Data Analysis and Institutional Research, at 850-245-0470.
