National Student Exchange
"Big Opportunities"

***Important Notice***

USF's participation in the National Student Exchange Program is on hiatus for the 2008-09 academic year due to budget concerns. No applications for incoming or outgoing USF students will be accepted for summer or fall, 2008 or spring 2009. If you have already started the application process, we deeply regret this action. We hope that we will be able to renew our participation for future years, and will update this information at that time.

In the meantime, we encourage you to visit USF's Study Abroad Office to explore opportunities to spend a semester or a spring or summer break at one of more than 30 institutions abroad. For more information about available programs, go the Study Abroad website.

Program Description

The National Student Exchange (NSE) is an association of colleges and universities that have joined together to provide exchange opportunities for their students. The National Student Exchange is the only program of its kind in the country.

Students can attend one of almost 200 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada for one or two semesters while paying USF tuition or the host campus resident tuition. The NSE program provides USF students an opportunity to become better acquainted with different social and educational patterns in other areas of the United States. NSE encourages students to experience new life and learning styles, learn more about themselves and others, and broaden their educational backgrounds through specialized courses or unique programs which may not be available at USF.

Since NSE was founded in 1968, more than 70,000 students have been placed in the program. In the coming academic year, it is anticipated that more than 4,000 students will spend up to one year attending college at another location.

How to get started

First, think about where you want to go. Is it a specific college or a certain location? What is important to you? Talk to your parents and your academic advisor. Review the NSE Directory of Exchange Opportunities (available through your NSE coordinator at USF) to see if the college and or location you are interested in is available. The NSE Directory lists such information as a description of each campus and its location, population and enrollment figures, and ethnic diversity statistics. You may also research the participating college(s) from the "NSE Campuses" link on our homepage. The most current and up-to-date information is at the official web site for National Student Exchange, www.nse.org. Visit the site today and get started on your life-changing experience!
