Why USF?...
I decided to attend USF because I was admitted through one of their
freshmen summer programs, Student Support Services. After deciding that
I would attend the program, I learned about the different
undergraduate majors and that helped seal the deal for me to want to
stay for the fall. |

First Day...
When I stepped into my first class I was like wow! They must really
mean business here! My teacher was cool and very helpful. I initially
thought that this would be overwhelming and maybe a little too much for
me to handle but I quickly caught on. |

Living the campus life ...
I lived on campus for a year as well as two summer semesters. I loved
living on campus. You can’t beat the convenience and I met most of my
friends while living on campus. It is definitely something that all
students should experience. |

Student activities ...
Well I have been in a host of different organizations here at USF. I
have been involved with the Homecoming Steering Committee for 2 years, going into my 3rd
year this year. I think this organization has helped me develop my love
for USF. It is this organization that keeps me wanting to be involved in
USF because it is such an intricate part in the USF experience. It is
the one event that all of the students, faculty, staff, alumni and Tampa
community get involved with. The other organization I am involved with
is Total Kaos Elite Dance Troupe. I love to dance and dancing with Total
Kaos allows me to do that. It has shaped my experience because it gives
me something fun to do instead of school work all the time. While
academics are very important to me, I think that everyone needs some
type of fun activity to make their college experience that much greater.

Activities ...
Me and my friends love to hang out, on and off campus. On campus we
like to hang out at the Marshall Center patio. Most students hang out
there during the day and most events happen around there between
classes. Off campus we enjoy bowling, going to the movies, going
swimming or to the jacuzzi and sometimes random trips to Wal-Mart. |

Professors ...
The professors here are good. They are always available to help you in
and out of class and most are very fair. My favorite professors would
have to be John Nieves,
Dr. Navita James,
and Julia Barnhill. John Nieves is in the English department and he was
the very first teacher I had here. I enjoyed his class because he made
writing fun and interesting. He also pulled things out of me that I
never knew where there.
Dr. Navita James and Julia Barnhill are both in the
Communications department. They helped to make class interesting and
interactive. I enjoyed the fact that they always came to class in a
great mood and were very excited about the subjects they taught. |
 |
Transitioning ...
Through the SSS program, which is how I was admitted into the
university, I found it easy to transition. I think that our school has a
great value for FTIC students and they are always actively searching for
ways to improve a freshmen’s transition into the college life. |
 |
Multiculturalism ...
I benefit from the cultural diversity at USF because I have learned so
much about the differences in cultures and how to respect and
acknowledge these differences. There are so many student organizations
that are dedicated to educating others about their culture and through
the events that are held by such organizations, I have been able to
learn more about them. It has truly shown me the value of culture in our
school and in society. |
 |
Metropolitan area ...
Being in Tampa affects me sometimes because I miss my family at times
but knowing why I am here makes living in Tampa that much more important
to me. I have yet to decide whether or not I am going to remain in Tampa
after I graduate. I would like to go to graduate school and I am now
currently deciding if staying at USF for graduate school would be right
for me. |
 |
Global ...
Because USF is one of the top universities around, I think that it has
allowed me to look at the school and what we’ve done overall. Through articles
in the Oracle, I have learned so much about how USF is actively working in
research and how things globally affect us right here at USF. I think USF again
has taught me to not only look at myself and evaluate, but it has also taught me to look at our world and
evaluate. Being at USF challenges me to make a change and it inspires me
every day to know that I am capable of making changes, locally and globally. |
