Meet Our Students - Kandice

Year:

Junior

Hometown: Miami, FL

Major:

Biomedical Sciences

High School: William H. Turner Technical Arts High School

Career goal:

My career goal is to one day become a successful pediatrician and help those families that are less fortunate as well as those who are. I also hope to one day start my own practice.

Favorite campus hangout:

My favorite campus hangout place would have to be the Marshall Center. It is a place where the students can unite as one, catch up on what they have missed and also find out ways to get involved on campus and in the community. You also get to meet a lot of new people when hanging out at the Marshall Center.

Favorite Building on Campus Marshall Center

Best place to eat:

The best place to eat would be the Tampa Room. You have a variety of food places to choose from and you also get to interact with many students in the process

Favorite campus-wide event:

Homecoming

Favorite campus tradition: Stampede of Service

Top three campus activities:

1. Bulls night out
2. Patio Tuesday
3. Dance Marathon

Car, bus or bike:

Car because I live off campus and it is convenient when I'm running behind to get to class.

5 things I love about USF:

1. Diversity
2. School Spirit
3. Many involvement opportunities
4. Location because it is not too close or too far from home
5. The many experience that I have gained being a student here.

Why USF?...
When looking for a school to attend I wanted something that felt like home, but wasn’t home. Because USF is located in Tampa it wasn’t to far from home and I like the community and the school spirit that is spread throughout the community. Therefore, the only decision to be made was when to move not which school. Also, the variety of undergraduate majors did influence my decision, I was very undecided as to what I wanted to major in but I did know what my career goal was to be. USF has so many majors to choose from there was no doubt that I would find the one for me once I became a student here.

First Day...
My first day of class was a bit freighting. It was my first time actually living away from home so I knew that after class I didn’t have my family at home waiting to ask me how my day went. So, I put on my confident face walked in to my Psychology class and realized that this might actually be a wonderful experience because of my first day of class I was able to successfully determine what my major would be.

Living the campus life...
I lived on campus my freshman year at USF. I really enjoyed it and would recommend that any student looking to attend college should live on campus their first year. You get to know the campus better and you can be more involved because you really have no excuse to leave campus. Everything you need is within walking distance and if you felt it was too far the shuttle stop was just a few feet away. I had a blast living on campus.

Activities ...
My favorite thing to do on campus is attend the different events that the many organizations host. Every week and everyday there is something new and different happening on campus and you always have many options. I also like going to the gym because there are many different things you can do to get a good work out. There are many classes to take in the gym that make your workout experience fun. Busch Gardens is just a hop and a skip away you can never go wrong with that.

Professors ...
The professors here at USF are very different, I can say that many of them do their best to help us as students succeed. They really do care about us and they make that known. It also depends on what your major is because with smaller classes you can get more intimate with the students and the professor and build a strong repor within the classroom.

Multiculturalism ...
Because of the cultural diversity at USF, you are able to learn from the students around you and it allows a different perspective on life. Depending on the city or even the state that you come from many people are limited in their knowledge of other cultures, so being a student at USF allows you to interact with and learn more about others. It’s amazing what you can learn from someone about their culture in just a few minutes of talking to them.

Metropolitan area ...
USF located about mid-way through Florida it doesn’t get too cold or too hot. I like the weather and it is very different from what I’m used to, with that said I look forward to staying in Tampa for a few more years, or at least through Medical School if possible.
