The USF Campus Recreation Summer Camp for Kids promotes experiences and recreational activities that provide a high quality, fun, and safe learning environment. The goal of the camp is to teach each camper the importance of developing lifetime sports and recreational skills while having fun. Educational emphasis is placed on promoting the importance of a lifestyle of health, fitness, and safety. The camp is open to children between the ages of 7 to 13.

The summer camp has the use of the USF Campus Recreation Center. The center has an indoor pool, two gymnasiums, 6 racquetball courts, 2 aerobic rooms, several multi-purpose rooms and classrooms. Additionally, the intramural fields and tennis courts are located right next door for those sunny days. All sports equipment will be provided.

Our energetic and well-qualified staff is ready to spend an exciting summer with the campers. The camp is under the direction of Chris Marks, Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Dennis Derflinger, a current Hillsborough county schoolteacher.

Camp sessions are scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:15a.m. to 6:00p.m.

12:00 - 1:00p.m. Lunch
1:00 - 2:45p.m. Afternoon Activity
2:45 - 3:00 p.m. Daily Awards
3:00 – 4:45 p.m. Pool
5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Pick-up |
Times and Places vary from day-to-day.
On the first Friday of each session the campers will go on a field trip to various fun spots around the USF Tampa Campus.

Feel secure in knowing that your son and/or daughter are participating in a camp program sponsored and administered by University of South Florida professionals. Our camp counselors are schoolteachers, college and high school students. Our camper to staff ratio is approximately 12 to 1 which allows for individual instruction when needed.
Health Forms
No camper will be allowed to begin camp without completed Health History and Medical Consent forms. These forms will be given to the parent or guardian once their camp deposit or payment is received. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to have their child’s forms filled out completely.
First Aid/Safety
A staff member certified in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR and a certified Lifeguard will be on duty at all times. Permission to provide medical treatment to campers in case of emergency is required. Parents must sign a Medical Consent form for camp participation. As with all physical activity, there are risks to injury involved with attending the camp.

Parents are REQUIRED to send a sack lunch with the camper each day! Please do not send candy or gum. Activity breaks are scheduled daily with snacks and juices provided.

Play clothes, socks, and tennis shoes are appropriate attire along with a swimming suit and towel. We recommend that campers carry with them a well marked backpack or athletic bag which can hold the aforementioned items.
Note: The Campus Recreation Department is not responsible for missing, broken or stolen items. Please mark or label all personal items. Every reasonable effort will be made to ensure property protection.

One Camp T-shirt is included in the camp tuition for each camp session. Camp T-Shirts do not have to be worn everyday, but will be required for all field trips.

Campers are required to complete a Behavior Contract on the first day of camp. The camp reserves the right to dismiss a camper if their behavior jeopardizes other campers’ safety and well-being.
Disruptive or dangerous behavior by participants will not be allowed. Staff will issue an oral warning to children, contact parents by telephone, or hold conferences to eliminate such behavior. Children will be dismissed from the program if problems cannot be corrected or behavior imposes a risk to other participants. Campers will abide by the policies and procedures of the camp. Parents of dismissed campers will not be reimbursed their camp tuition or fees.

We offer a wide variety of traditional and unique sports and recreational activities for the children to select from. The following are a sample of some of the activities offered at camp.

(All activities will be modified to age/skill levels)

Each session will cost $300.00 per child*. This cost includes a T-Shirt and a field trip every Friday to various fun spots around the USF Tampa Campus and the surrounding area. Parking permits will be provided for each session.

The Campus Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any session(s) or modify activities due to under-enrollment, facility problems, staffing concerns, or circumstances beyond its control (i.e. rain, pool problems, and electrical outages). Parents will be notified immediately if a session is altered in any way.
