Facility Policies

Conduct Standards & Policies

  • All Campus Recreation Center users must present a current, valid USF ID card.
  • Individuals who present false identification or whose ID is presented by another person may forfeit Campus Recreation privileges. False identifications will be confiscated.
  • Campus Recreation reserves the right to refuse admittance to anyone.
  • All policies outlined in the University of South Florida Student Code of Conduct will be enforced.
  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Use of personal bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, or roller blades is prohibited inside the facility.
  • Pets are not permitted inside the facility, except approved service animals.
  • Participants may not use or be under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs in the Campus Recreation Center.
  • Tobacco use of any kind is prohibited inside the facility.
  • Food is restricted to the lobby.
  • Chewing gum is prohibited in all areas of the facility.
  • Only spill-proof water bottles are allowed inside the facility.
  • Standing on or leaning over railings is prohibited.
  • Participants should report malfunctioning lights, temperature fluctuations, or any other maintenance concerns to the on-site Campus Recreation employee.

  • Signage or flyers of any type must be approved prior to posting.
  • Close-toed, non-marking athletic shoes and shirts are required at all times, except in designated rooms and areas.
  • Personal headsets are welcome, but the use of radios/portable stereos or amplified sound is not permitted in any Campus Recreation facility without prior approval.

Guest Policies

  1. Current students and members are eligible to serve as a sponsor for their daily guests.  They are allowed a maximum of 3 guests per day.
  2. Campus Recreation reserves the right to deny access to a guest.
  3. The eligible Campus Recreation sponsor and their guest must present photo identification before the guest fee is charged.
  4. All guests are required to sign the Liability and Informed Consent Waiver prior to accessing the facility.  If the guest is under the age of 18, the sponsor must sign on their behalf.
  5. Guest passes will not be sold within 15 minutes of closing time.
  6. Guests are not permitted to solicit students or members to sponsor access into the facility.
  7. Sponsors are responsible for the conduct and actions of the guests at all times.  They are subject to disciplinary action as a result of any inappropriate actions of their guests.
  8. Guests must be 16 years old to participate in any Fitness or Group Fitness activity, and they must be with sponsor at all times.
  9. Guests are not allowed at the Argos Fitness Center.
  10. Guests must abide by all rules and regulations of the facility and the University of South Florida..

Guest Fees

  • $10/ day when accompanied by a current USF student or Campus Recreation Member.
  • $15/ day if no sponsor is present.
  • Children under the age of 4 years old are admitted free with a legal guardian sponsor and must remain with the guardian at all times.
  • Guest passes are non-transferable.  They must be used the day of purchase.
  • Guest passes can be purchased at the Welcome Desk or in the Membership Office of the Campus Recreation Center.  The purchase receipt must be presented at the Welcome Desk on the day it was purchased with a valid photo ID.
  • Guest will not receive a refund more than 20 minutes after purchase of a guest pass.

Equipment Policies

  1. Equipment check-out is free to current USF students and Campus Recreation Members with a valid USF ID.
  2. Guests are not allowed to check-out equipment or reserve courts.
  3. Equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis.
  4.  All equipment must be returned the same day it was checked-out.  This excludes overnight equipment, which is only available for some items.
  5. Campus Recreation is not responsible for any lost or damaged equipment stored at the Equipment Desk.
  6. Participants are responsible for lost or damaged equipment.  If equipment is not returned within a week of being checked-out, it will be considered lost and the participant will be responsible for the replacement cost of the equipment.  Replacement/ repair cost for damaged equipment is at the discretion of the Campus Recreation Staff.
  7. Bicycles and various camping equipment is available for check-out through the Outdoor Resource Center on the Lower Level.

Gymnasium Policies

  1. All Campus Recreation General Policies will be enforced.
  2. This gym is used for open recreation, intramurals, and is available for special event reservations.
  3. Basketball, volleyball, and badminton are available to play during open recreation.
  4. During gym times, no one team can monopolize the courts for more than 3 consecutive games.
  5. Close-toed, non-marking athletic shoes and shirts are required at all times.
  6. Only Spill-proof water bottles are allowed. Food and gum is not permitted.
  7. Dunking, grabbing, hanging on the rims or nets, or hand in the “cylinder” is not permitted due to safety and maintenance concerns.
  8. The curtain will only be lowered for Special Events, Sport Club Practices, or for safety concerns based on the discretion of the Campus Recreation Staff.

    Personal headsets are welcome, but the use of radios/portable stereos or amplified sound is not permitted in any Campus Recreation facility without prior approval.

Volleyball or Badminton Court Policy

During open recreation all courts are first come, first served if the court is open. If set up of nets is necessary, people or groups must meet the following criteria:

Volleyball:
  • There has to be a minimum of 8 people to set up one court (minimum of 4 on 4).
  • There has to be a minimum of 16 people to set up two courts.
  • There has to be a minimum of 24 people to set up three courts.
Badminton:
  • There has to be a minimum of 2 people to set up one court (minimum of 4 on 4).
  • There has to be a minimum of 6 people to set up two courts.
  • There has to be a minimum of 10 people to set up three courts.

Racquetball Court Policies

  1. All Campus Recreation General Policies will be enforced.
  2. Racquetball Courts are available for reservation or walk-in use.
  3. Reservations can be made in person at the Equipment Room or by calling (813)974-3608.
  4. Reservations can be made up to 24 hours in advanced and are reserved on the hour.
  5. Reservations can only be made for single, one hour blocks.
  6. Reservations are forfeited if participants do not check-in by ten minutes after their reservation time.
  7. Reservations cannot be made after the start of the hour.
  8. All courts can be used as Handball Courts; Court #6 can serve as a Squash Court.
  9. All equipment used for racquetball and squash is available for check-out to Campus Recreation Members at the Equipment Desk.
  10. Only a maximum of 4 people are allowed on the courts at one time.
  11. Close-toed, non-marking athletic shoes and shirts are required while in the racquetball courts.
  12. Protective goggles are recommended while playing.

General Fitness Policies

  1. Shirts or tank tops must be worn. Jeans, jean shorts, clothing with metal pieces and accessories, open-toe or slip-on shoes are not permitted.
  2. Attire resulting in indecent exposure is not permitted.
  3. Clean towels are highly encouraged for personal use.
  4. Thoroughly clean equipment before and after each use.
  5. Use of personal equipment is not permitted.  A variety of equipment is available at Main Level Equipment Checkout. Equipment Checkout items promptly after use.
  1. Cell phone use is not permitted while using equipment.
  2. Bags of any kind (backpacks, equipment/workout bags, purses, etc.) are not permitted in the fitness areas.
    1. Single use lockers are available on the Main Level Cardio Floor and Lower Level Strength Areas.
    2. Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items.
  3. Only spill-proof water bottles permitted in fitness areas.
  4. Chewing gum and tobacco use of any kind is not permitted in any fitness area.

 

Participants are expected to use equipment for its intended purposes and maintain safety at all times.  For assistance please see the Fitness Staff on duty.  Everyone is expected to respect the policies, staff, and others.  Any accidents or injuries must be reported immediately.  Use equipment at your own risk.  All other Campus Recreation Center Policies apply.

Fitness Strength Policies

  • Shirts or tank tops must be 1) worn, 2) not expose the torso (e.g., back, chest, midriff). Refer to the “Go-No Go” posters for examples. 
  • Maintain control of weights at all times. Dropping or throwing weights will not be tolerated.
  • Use of collars is required on all free-weight bars.
  • Return all equipment and weights to their proper location.
  • Weight belts are not permitted on exercise equipment where buckles make contact with upholstery.
  • Misuse of equipment (including dropping weights), misconduct, yelling, or profanity is not permitted.
  • Deadlifts are only permitted inside Smith Machines and Power Racks.  Weights cannot be dropped.
  • Olympic lifting is permitted inside the Dual-action Smith Machines.  Weights cannot be dropped.  Lifts are restricted to the following: Hang Clean, Power Clean, and High Pull.
  • Chalk, chains, and elastic bands are not permitted.

Fitness Cardio Policies

  1. During peak hours, (Monday – Friday 5-9pm) use of cardio equipment is limited to 30 minutes per machine.
  2. All footwear must be dry and free of dirt before participating.
  3. Use ‘Gym Wipes’ to thoroughly clean equipment before and after each use.

Quick Circuit Guidelines

  • Shirts or tank tops must be 1) worn, 2) not expose the torso (e.g., back, chest, midriff). Refer to the “Go-No Go” posters for examples. 
  • Before beginning, complete a 5-10 minute warm-up activity.
  • Begin on any machine.
  • The circuit is designed for participants to move clockwise and complete exercises on each machine.
  • On each machine perform 1 set of 10-15 repetitions with a weight that is challenging and allows for safe completion of each set.
  • With approximately 30 seconds in between each exercise, thoroughly clean the machine, move to the next machine, and determine the proper machine settings.
  • Do not use machines out of order or perform consecutive sets on one machine.

Indoor Track Policies

  1. All Campus Recreation General Policies will be enforced.
  2. Enter the track with caution.
  3. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed on the track under any circumstances.
  4. Appropriate athletic shoes must be worn.  No spiked shoes, turf shoes, sandals, or open-toed shoes are permitted.
  5. All footwear must be dry and free of dirt before participating.
  6. Standing, horseplay, spectating, and/ or stretching are not permitted on the track lanes.
  7. Throwing or dropping items to or from the track is prohibited.
  8. Participants must use the track in the designated direction.  The track direction changes daily.
  9. Walkers use the inside lanes and runners use the outside lanes.
  10. No more than 2 runners or walkers side by side.
  11. The track is 1/12th of a mile; therefore, 12 laps in the center lane equal 1 mile.

Group Fitness Policies

1. Sign up for classes requiring registration, online or using the Lobby Kiosks beginning at 6am daily.
• Classes requiring registration are noted with an ‘R’.

2. Shirts and tank tops must be 1) worn, 2) not expose the torso (e.g., back, chest, midriff). Refer to the “Go-No Go” posters for examples
3. Athletic shoes must be worn during all classes unless otherwise noted.
4. Participants are highly encouraged to thoroughly clean equipment (e.g., mats) before and after each use.
5. For your safety, tardiness to classes will not be tolerated. Participants will not be allowed to participate after the class has begun.
6. Only spill-proof water bottles are permitted in the rooms.
7. Food is not permitted in the rooms.
8. Equipment provided during classes may not be removed from the rooms.
9. During classes lockers or cubbies should be used for personal items.
10. Participants displaying inappropriate behavior or compromising the safety and/or format of the class

Cycling Studio Policies

  1. Participants are required to bring a clean towel for personal use.
  2. Participants are required to bring a spill-proof water bottle.
  3. Cycling shoes are not permitted outside the Cycling Studio.
  4. Participants must thoroughly clean equipment before and after each use.

Pool Policies

  1. No running, wrestling, or horseplay in pool area (on deck or diving boards).
  2. No swimming without the presence of a Campus Recreation Lifeguard.
  3. Glass containers, alcoholic beverages, food or drinks are NOT permitted in the pool area.
  4. Pool use is reserved for students, faculty/staff, and their families only. Swimmers may be asked to show ID cards at any time
  5. Children using floatation devices must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the water.
  6. Lifeguards reserve the right to restrict the use of boards and deep-water area to people according to swimming ability.
  7. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
  8. No bikes, skateboards or roller skates in pool area.
  9. No Animals (except Service Animals registered with Student with Disability Services and are allowed onto pool deck and into locker rooms).
  10. No smoking.
  11. No diving in the shallow end.
  12. When lightning is detected within 8 miles of the pool, patrons will be asked to exit the water for a minimum of 30 minutes.
