Committee on Diversity

Purpose:
The Committee on Diversity is an internal committee of the Counseling Center whose overall purpose is to promote awareness of and appreciation for individual differences including culture, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual/affectional orientation, ability status, and world view.

Goals:

  1. Collaborate with other University offices and committees in support of University-wide diversity goals
  2. Establish "linkages" or "bridges" with key individuals and organizations on campus related to ethnic minority and other special populations
  3. Develop outreach workshops and other programs for special populations, especially those who might be underserved by the Counseling Center and/or who might not otherwise seek counseling services
  4. Investigate ways in which the Counseling Center might be more appealing to underserved groups
  5. Provide on-going in-service training for Counseling Center staff and trainees
  6. Create and support ongoing opportunities for meaningful dialogue on diversity-related issues
