Emergencies
In the event of an emergency... Call 911 or go directly to any Emergency Room. If you are unable to transport yourself, ask for an ambulance or help from a supervisor or co-worker. Ensure the emergency room is aware that the injury is due to a work-related incident and you are covered under CorVel Corp. Workers' Compensation. It is important that your supervisor, the WC Specialist at USF and/or CorVel Corp. be notified of an emergency as soon as possible because they can verify insurance information to the emergency room and initiate completion of necessary paper work.
CorVel Corp. definition of emergency:
"Emergency" means medical services provided after the sudden or unexpected onset of a medical condition manifesting itself by acute symptoms, including injury caused by an accident, which are severe enough that the lack of immediate medical attention would result in any of the following:
- The patient's life or health would be placed in serious jeopardy.
- Vital bodily functions would be seriously impaired.
- There would be serious and permanent dysfunction of a bodily organ or part.
- Circumstances resulting in any employee receiving hospital and medical services that are furnished by an appropriate source other than Participating Provider because the employee was unable, due to shock or unconsciousness, to specify a choice of providers.
