Responsibilities

Employee

  • Reports injury to supervisor.
  • Keeps in close contact with the supervisor, updating him/her on work status determined by doctor.
  • Gives all medical statements, ability to work slips, and doctor or physical therapy slips to the supervisor. Without proper documentation, WC benefits may be denied.
  • Contact the Workers' Comp. Coordinator at USF for information or help at any time.

Supervisor

  • Completes a First Report of Injury or Illness (FRII).
  • Oversees recovery of the injured employee and approves use of leave, based upon workers' comp. physician's orders.
  • Provides a light-duty program, if required, to help the injured employee return to work safely and comfortably, as authorized by the workers' comp. physician.
  • Communicates with the Workers' Comp. Coordinator at USF in order to help the injured employee receive benefits in a timely manner.
  • Completes timesheets while the injured employee is recovering at home and coordinates salary benefits with assistance of the Workers' Comp. Coordinator at USF.
  • Ensures that the period of time the injured employee is out of work due to a work-related injury is counted toward the employee's entitlement under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Workers' Comp. Coordinator at USF

  • Communicates with the Division of Risk Management (DRM) and CorVel Corp..
  • Communicates with the workers' comp. doctor, for updated information regarding the injured employee's prognosis and recovery.
  • Oversees the workers' comp. claim, to be certain all proper procedures are being followed in order to provide the injured employee with workers' comp. benefits.
  • Works with the supervisor, to be certain the employee is on the road to recovery.
