Workers' Compensation Costs
$500.00 FINE DUE TO LATE REPORTING
Upon being notified or becoming aware of a work-related accident or injury, it is the responsibility of the supervisor/ department to report the injury using a First Report of Injury or Illness. This form must be received in the Division of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management, CRS 104 within 48 hours in order for the form to be processed and forwarded to the Division of Risk Management (DRM). If the form is not received by DRM within 7 calendar days of the incident/injury being reported, the University is fined $500.00. The assessed fine is charged to the department in which the injured employee works.
10-Weeks of TTD Salary Benefits
Beginning with injuries that occurred on 7/1/93, the Florida Legislature mandated that each agency reimburse DRM 10 weeks of salary benefits paid to injured workers with temporary total disability (TTD). Consequently, this means that the department in which the injured employee works will be liable for up to 10 weeks of salary benefits, which is 66 2/3 % of the employee's salary for 10 weeks, if an employee is injured and unable to return to work full-time. This expense will be charged to the department account number from which the employee's salary is paid. If the employee continues to be absent after this period, the 66 2/3 % of the salary continues to be paid to the employee by DRM, and will cease to be charged directly to the employer. Departments returning employees to full or part-time light duty work are not required to reimburse DRM for the partial salary benefits received.
