USF St. Petersburg Brick Form
Message from the Dean:
Friends and colleagues,
As Dean of the Library at USF St. Petersburg, I am deeply grateful for the daily contributions of the faculty and staff of the Library. While enrollment has gone up almost 20% in the last few years, traffic into the Library has increased almost 30% in the same period of time, circulation activity has risen 5%, and library instruction sessions have gone up 70%. Yet during that same period, library staffing levels and financial resources stayed the same or decreased. In spite of these challenges, student and faculty satisfaction with the library and its services is consistently ranked well above 90%. The Poynter Library has a reputation across the campus for caring about our students and for providing great service. Without the extraordinary day-to-day efforts of the faculty and staff of the Library, we would not have been able to achieve so much in such difficult times.
Thank you for what you give to the Library and to the University every day in countless ways.
I know that everyone has many personal commitments and has to think carefully about how every dollar is spent. I am asking you to consider making a donation to the Library because I have seen the impact of your financial support on the students of the University. And, along with the actual dollars, every person who contributes to the Library at any level provides tangible evidence to outside funders of the level of commitment that exists within the Library and the University.
In 2011-2012, your contributions helped us to make significant progress in a number areas, including: 1) the USFSP digital archive which contains important information and publications (both current and historical) and provides a platform to showcase faculty and student research and scholarship; 2) a wide variety of student and community events to highlight our services and collections; 3) new furnishings for the first floor of the Library that allowed us to be responsive to student requests; 4) an upgraded technical infrastructure to keep us on target for meeting student demand; and 5) on and off-site professional development opportunities for all levels of staff so that we can stay on the cutting edge of ideas; and much more.
This is a time of growth and excitement for USFSP. Under the leadership of Interim Regional Chancellor Hogarth, we will continue to provide exceptional service to our students, faculty and the broader community and we will be able to expand the range of innovative library services that are critical to the development of USF St. Petersburg. I want to thank you for your generosity and daily commitment to the University and its students. With your ongoing support, we will continue to strive to be the Gateway to the World’s Information http://dspace.nelson.usf.edu/xmlui/handle/10806/3302 for students and faculty of USFSP.
Your donations will help us to thrive – and continue to inspire!
