of hire. All employees are given the opportunity to
change their benefit plan selections once a year, during Open
Enrollment. Otherwise, employees enrolled in benefits through
the State Group Insurance Program may not change their benefit
elections during the course of a plan year (January 1st
– December 31st) unless they experience a
Qualifying Status Change (QSC) event. This is in accordance
with IRS regulations regarding pre-tax premium plans.
QSC events include, but are not
limited to:
Marriage or divorce
Death of a spouse or dependent
Birth, adoption, or legal guardianship
Change in employment status of employee, spouse, or dependent, including
·
Termination of spouse’s or dependent’s employment
·
Unpaid leave of absence over one calendar month
·
Change from part-time to full-time status or vice-vers
If you experience a QSC and wish to make a change to your
benefits, you must notify People First within 31 days of the QSC. If
notification is received more than 31 days after the event, the request
for changes will be denied and cannot be processed until the next annual
Open Enrollment period. Please note that if
you experience a QSC due to the birth of a child, you have 60 days
(instead of 31 days) from the date of birth to add the new born to your
benefits
To make a change to your benefits as a result of a QSC,
you may contact People First at 1-866-663-4735 (toll free) or you may

ODT
INTRODUCES NEW TOOLS
ODT is pleased to announce a new set of Tools for the Trainers around campus. Many USF staff positions include the responsibility of training others – both on the USF staff, in the community, and/or client groups. Although subject matter expertise is a great asset, it is not enough to ensure effectiveness as a trainer. Good trainers are not only proficient in the skills that they teach; they are also dynamic presenters, skilled facilitators, and patient coaches.
The ODT “Tools for Trainers” learning series will help participants develop the core competencies needed to successfully lead training programs. Through the workshops below, participants will learn to present with confidence, facilitate meaningful discussions and learning experiences, and design programs that help participants achieve their learning goals. The workshops are:
-
Engaging the Adult Learner (TRN100) – March 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
-
Trainer’s Presentation Skills (TRN200) – April 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
-
Trainer’s Facilitation Skills (TRN300)– May 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
-
The Trainer’s Design Workshop (TRN400)– June 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
Please also visit the ODT website at
www.usf.edu/odt to see our Tools for Leaders workshops. Registration for all ODT workshops is through GEMS Self Service located at

USF
FACULTY & STAFF ROCK!
On Saturday, February 18, 2006, HR and Athletics coordinated an event hosted by President Judy Genshaft to celebrate all USF Faculty, Staff, and their families and guests. Over 1,200 participants enjoyed a fun-filled “FIESTA” designed to say THANKS to all of the USF employees for choosing to be a part of our great University. Participants enjoyed beautiful weather, great company, fantastic food and drink, and wonderful door prizes. They also had the chance to participate in a number of activities (all age groups) including our very own “Running of the Bulls” (better known as wheel barrow races!), a dance contest, and swing at several piñatas!
Thanks to all who attended. A special thanks to Sandi Conway and Nancy Ward of HR who headed up the planning and execution of the event, and to Doug Wollard and Jim Louk for hosting us at the USF vs. Georgetown basketball game at the Sun Dome immediately following the event. To bring a great end to a great event, our USF Bulls were victorious over Georgetown!!
We’ll see you all next year!
