Payment of Leave Balances

Employees may be entitled to a cash payment of leave balances upon changing enrollment in leave plans or separation from the university. Please refer to the procedures and forms below to ensure that leave balances are correctly prepared and submitted for appropriate cash out payments.

Payment for Unused Annual Leave

Employees are paid for their unused annual leave subject to limits in the maximum number of hours employees may receive. The limits are:

  • Staff employees, with at least 6 months of service, receive a maximum of 240 hours of annual leave.
  • Administrative and 12-month faculty employees receive a maximum of 352 hours of annual leave.
  • Executive Service employees receive a maximum of 480 hours of annual leave.

Payment for Unused Sick Leave

Employees are paid for their unused sick leave subject to limits in the maximum number of hours employees may receive.

Overtime Compensatory Leave Pay Out  

Non-exempt Staff employees are eligible to receive payment for unused special compensatory leave. The maximum cash out of overtime compensatory leave is not to exceed 120 hours. For each hour of time worked that is accrued as Overtime Compensatory, the payout will be 1.5 times, similar to overtime pay.

Payment of Unused Special Compensatory Leave  

Exempt and non-exempt Staff employees are eligible to receive payment for unused special compensatory leave, up to a maximum of 120 hours. Special Compensatory Leave is paid out at normal rates per hour.
