Student Assistants

Student assistants are employed as hourly employees and can be appointed on a yearly or semester basis. They are considered Temporary employees and therefore are not eligible for state benefits.

In order to maintain their Student FICA Exemption they must work no more than 32 hours per week, be degree seeking and registered for at least 6 credit hours a semester. If a student regularly works more than 32 hours per week, they will be automatically enrolled in the Temporary Employee Retirement Plan (TERP).

All student assistants are coded with job code 9190.
