About Your Paycheck
The University of South Florida pays on a bi-weekly payroll cycle. Each pay period begins on Friday and ends two weeks later on Thursday. You will be paid for that pay period one week later on Friday.
Section 110.113 of the Florida Statutes requires, all employees, except undergraduate work study students, are required to enroll in direct deposit as a condition of employment.
Changes to direct deposit can be made via GEMS Self Service.
A savings or checking account at a financial institution (such as commercial banks and credit unions) is all that is required for direct deposit. Some commercial banks offer free or reduced cost accounts with the use of direct deposit so you may want to shop around for the best deal. Human Resources has established business relationships with both the USF Federal Credit Union and Wells Fargo to ensure that all USF employees will be able to open some type of account, regardless of credit history.
Employees enrolled in Direct Deposit do not receive a printed paycheck, or a printed itemized pay statement. You may access your itemized payment statement via Gems Self Service. Step by step instructions are provided for accessing Gems Self Service. Employees without access to a computer may ask their supervisor to print it for them or they may submit a Pay Advice Request form to Payroll.
If you receive a paper check, you must pick it up in the Payroll Office, SVC0077 on pay day Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. If you do not pick up your paycheck that day, you can pick it up in the Payroll Office, SVC0077 on the following Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. A photo ID is required.
Changes to your W4 (Federal Withholding) can be made in GEMS Self Service.
For name changes, submit the Name Change Form along with an original Social Security card with the new or corrected name to a Human Resources or Payroll representative.
Please review paycheck information carefully and contact Payroll at (813)-974-7955, if you have any questions.
