Blueprint for Success: Career Development Skills (PRD104)

Fee: no cost to USF Staff and Faculty

Type: Instructor Led

Intended Audience: For employees who would like to take inventory of their current skills, knowledge, abilities and chart their career direction. Employees who are considering a job change, promotion or retirement.

Program Overview: Tom Peters writes "We are CEO's of our own companies: Me Inc." Career planning allows you to take charge of your future by setting goals today. Participants will reinforce their commitment to their current role and identify the steps to achieve future career goals.

Objectives:

  • Identify your strengths and talent gaps in your current position;

  • Review the aspects of your job that motivate or de-motivate you and identify what needs to change and know how to begin the process;

  • List strategies to collaborate with your manager to set clear performance expectations and goals.

Agenda: Each class participant will conduct a gap analysis on their career using the three stages below:

  • Discussion and activities to discover where participants are currently in their career regarding their skills, abilities, knowledge and values;

  • Participants will then discuss where they want to be by aligning their goals with that of the University as well as mind mapping their future career path;

  • Third is planning how to get from where they currently are to where they want to be by designing a development action plan.
