Effective Interviewing (PRC205)

Intended Audience: Hiring managers who would like to learn or "brush up" on their behavioral based interviewing skills.

Program Overview: Selection of personnel is one of the most important responsibilities of a manager. Participants will learn effective ways to interview potential employees so that the best candidate is identified.

Objectives: Participants will be able to:

  • Write behavioral interview questions;

  • Use effective listening skills;

  • Describe best practices for recognizing and selecting the best person for an open position. .

Agenda:

  • Overview of interviewing skills that work for selecting the right person;

  • Define behavioral interviewing;

  • Practice the behavioral interviewing technique and develop basic skills;

  • Match interview questions to job descriptions;

  • Apply principles.

Pre-Requisite Activities: Participants will be asked to review the RiightSearch web site so that they understand the USF hiring process, since this workshop will only focus on interviewing skills. Participants will be asked to come to class with a job description, and pre-written behavioral based interview questions written for that specific job. The questions written by participants will be discussed in class.
