Ruth and Jerry Bell
Endowed Scholarship


The Ruth and Jerry Bell Scholarship was established in 1990. It is offered annually to an academically talented African American freshman, transfer, or continuing student studying at the University of South Florida.

Qualifications
The selection committee will choose recipients on the basis of the academic talent demonstrated by the applicant. The minimum academic criteria are as follows:

  • A Florida resident of African descent.
  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (4.0 scale) or higher is required (3.0 is preferred).
  • ACT minimum composite score of 20 or SAT minimum score of 900.
Please note that once the minimum academic requirements are met, the selection committee will consider other academic and non-academic factors in reaching a final decision.  Other factors considered include service to schools and other non-profit institutions, leadership responsibilities, work experience and special contributions (e.g., the arts, community service, volunteer work).
