Development & Training at USF offers a variety of
learning experiences to help leaders at all levels
enhance their leadership abilities and gain tools to
help them improve results. Leaders may participate in
the full series of workshops or select only those that
meet their current development needs. Below is a list of

Understanding
Yourself & Others: Applications of the DiSC
™
at Work (LDR501):
Self awareness and the capacity for self management have
been widely recognized as essential to effectiveness as
a leader. Leaders that recognize the tendencies
associated with their personality are better able to
manage themselves and get positive results when leading
people whose style differs from their own. Through this
workshop, we will use the DiSC profile to help leaders
enhance their understanding of themselves and others.

Strategies for collaboration between people with
differing styles, perspectives and priorities
Participants will complete the
DiSC™ before the workshop using an online
tool.

Workshop 4 -
Performance Planning & Communication Overview (LDR310):
Achieving positive work
results, inspiring consistently strong performance, and
maintaining a work environment that is rewarding and
motivating for staff and faculty hinges on the
day-to-day communication that occurs between leaders and
those they lead. The PPC overview workshop introduces
participants to a process and skills for communicating
with employees about performance. The process includes:

clearly communicating
goals and expectations,

giving and receiving
feedback about performance on a regular basis,
-
partnering with
employees to solve problems, and
-
acknowledging
accomplishments.
Through this workshop,
participants will be introduced to communication
strategies for having these conversations and discover
where to access resources for further support and
development.

Workshop 5 -
Effective Employee Coaching (LDR300):
Enhance your
leadership skills through the use of situational
leadership. For more than two decades, Situational
Leadership has provided the most comprehensive yet
practical method of effectively managing people, time,
and resources. Situational Leadership is one of the
coaching tools taught in this four hour workshop. This
workshop introduces new and tenured managers to tools
for more effectively coaching employees to higher
performance.
This
workshop helps participants learn:

To diagnosis
and select the best leadership style to meet the needs
of employees.

To assess the
willingness and ability of team members
3)
To manage
people, time and resources more effectively
4)
Tools for
setting and redirecting performance expectations

Giving and
Receiving Performance Feedback(LDR500):

Management is a conversation about the work. It is
through the open exchange of constructive feedback that
leaders and those they lead partner to solve problems,
innovate new ideas and facilitate progress toward a
goal. Exchanging feedback in a manner that is
constructive, however, can be challenging. Through this
workshop, participants will learn a range of
communication skills that can help enhance their
effectiveness when giving and receiving performance
feedback.

Workshop 2 - Running
Successful Meetings (CSC200):
Meeting to share information and ideas is
fundamental to effective collaboration. Unfortunately,
meetings are often non-productive and monotonous.
Developing strong meeting facilitation skills can
enhance efficiency, engage participants, and ensure that
key agenda items are sufficiently discussed and desired
objectives are met. Topics include:

Techniques for creating and using agendas effectively.
·
Key roles to be played by meeting participants.
·
Skills for involving participants and facilitating discussion.

Workshop 3 -
Strategic Planning (LDR302):
As a result of participating in this workshop,
participants will be able to

Describe strategic planning and list the common
components of a strategic plan

Describe the role that strategic planning plays in
enabling long-term success for any organization

Identify how strategic planning differs from other
forms of organizational planning

Develop strategic-thinking skills in themselves and
others
-
Work through the key stages of the
strategic-planning process: (1) assess the current
environment; (2) develop a vision of the future and
define the key governing values/beliefs; (3)
identify strategic issues and develop action
goals/plans; and (4) implement, monitor, and revise
the plan

Identify methods for involving key stakeholders in
strategy formulation and implementation.

Describe common obstacles to strategic planning and
ways to overcome them.

Workshop 4 - Strategic
Thinking (LDR303):
Without strategic thinkers throughout the organization
and at every level, key insights will be lost and the
strategies the organization pursues likely flawed. This
workshop deeply engages participants in thinking
strategically about their organization, the environment
within which it operates, the strategies that it has
embraced and their individual roles within the
organization.

Workshop 5 -
Delivering Effective Presentations (PRD101):
Delivering a presentation can be nerve-wracking,
but it doesn’t have to be! By developing your
delivering skills and taking the right steps to
prepare your content effectively, you can begin
to experience more ease and success when giving
a presentation. In this workshop, you will have
the opportunity to learn and practice
presentation techniques that can increase both
your skill and comfort. Topics include:

Ways to enhance comfort and confidence when
delivering presentations

Strategies for organizing your ideas

Capturing and holding audience interest

Optimizing eye contact, gestures, and
posture

Workshop 6 - Leading
Change (LDR304):
Explore how leaders can initiate and foster change by
addressing the six predictable stages of concern that
will arise. Review lessons from the book Leading at a
Higher Level to learn how to reduce resistance, gain
buy-in, and create an action plan for successfully
leading a change effort within your organization.
Discover the steps to making sure that your next change
initiative succeeds.
