Tips for Planning Your Photo Shoot

Once you’ve identified your objective, it is often helpful to set up a meeting with the photographer to discuss the details of the shoot (location, lighting requirements, coordinating student models, etc). This is an ideal time to sort out the responsibilities for making all components of the shoot come together.

During the meeting, the photographer will discuss usage rights for the photographs and then follow up by sending an estimate along with a contract to your office. Even though you have commissioned the creation of the images, copyright law mandates that University Communications & Marketing retain ultimate ownership of their images. When you commission University Communications & Marketing Photography, you are purchasing the reproduction rights to the images that are created; they cannot be used by anyone else without your permission.

If you would like to commission the photography department, contact Joseph Gamble, University Photographer, at (813) 974-9057 or .

It is imperative that you contact USF photography a minimum of two weeks in advance of your intended shoot date.
