Termination actions are entered in GEMS to
reflect the following:
End of temporary employment (i.e. Adjunct,
Visiting, Acting or OPS)
End of Employment Authorization
End of employment on a particular job/Empl
Rcd#
End of employment at USF
Things to Remember:
The Termination Date reflects the first day
an employee is in a terminated status. In other words, Termination
Dates are entered as the day after the last day worked.
Terminations of temporary employment are
entered as future dated rows at the time of the Hire/Rehire/Extend
actions are entered. Therefore, extensions for temporary
appointments must be sent to HR prior to the employee's
termination date.
Expiration dates of Employment
Authorizations are entered as terminations in accordance with the dates
reflected on the Visa supporting documents.
Termination papers must be
sent to HR no later than five (5) business days from the date the
employee provides notice of resignation*. Please do not "zero"
an employee out on your CERTs as opposed to sending over an ASF.
Termination actions must reflect the reason
for termination either by memo or directly on the ASF, with the notice
of resignation from the employee attached (i.e. email, memo, letter).
Any termination sent in as a result of
performance issues should have accompanying documentation from Employee
Relations.
* Please note that a delay in processing
terminations for regular employees may adversely affect the disposition
of benefits and receipt of important documents, including the COBRA
notification.
