Appendix C – Knowledge
Requirements
Every position requires
certain types of knowledge. For job analysis, “knowledge” refers to what an
employee must know in order to perform the essential functions of a
position. This includes the ability to recall underlying principles and
theories, and the names of the parts, tools, resources, and forms required
to perform a task. Knowledge may be acquired through formal education,
training, personal experience, or job experience.
The questionnaire asks you to identify
the knowledge
areas required for this position. There is room to identify up to seven
knowledge areas, however, many positions will not have that many. An
Accountant, for example, might identify Accounting, Statistics, and Office
PC Applications as his or her required knowledge areas. Please note that a
separate question in the knowledge section asks you to list the specific
software applications used in this position. You may choose knowledge areas
from this list, or develop your own descriptions for the knowledge required
for this position.
