Attack on America

At 11:25 a.m. September 11, 2001, Jim Horne, Florida's Secretary of Education announced the closing of all colleges and universities following news of the terrorist attack on America.

The University of South Florida recognized 11 a.m. as the official closing time of the University.  University Police, service for residential students, the USF Medical Clinic and medical services at area hospitals remained open.  Compensation for hours worked varied depending on individual situations.

Any employees who left work due to the terrorist situation before the announcement of the closing were eligible to have the hours from 11:00 a.m. through the close of business counted as administrative leave.  Employees who were on an approved leave of absence, with or without pay, at the time of the emergency closing were not to have the leave of absence changed to administrative leave.  Administrative leave was granted in an amount necessary to bring the employees up to their normal hours for the workweek.

Additional questions/concerns, should be directed to your department A&L coordinator or Beverly Jerry at extension 4-5717 or bjerry@admin.usf.edu.
