HURRICANE FRANCES

Revised 9/10/04

All USF campuses were officially closed on Friday, September 3, 2004.  Although classes were canceled on Tuesday, September 7, 2004, the University was officially opened.

Please remember the following:

Administrative leave is granted in an amount necessary to bring the employees up to their normal hours for the workweek.

Employees on an approved leave of absence, with or without pay at the time of the emergency closing, will not be able to substitute with administrative leave.

Employees identified as “essential service personnel” who were required to work during the emergency closing earned special compensatory leave for those hours worked.

Only Professional and Salaried OPS are eligible to receive their regular biweekly pay regardless of the closing, if they were so certified.  Hourly OPS employees are not eligible for administrative leave due to the emergency closing.  If the workload required it, supervisors could allow the employee to adjust the workweek by working additional hours to bring the hourly OPS employees to their maximum hours for the workweek.

September 7, 2004

In the past two months USF has been faced with Hurricane Charley and Hurricane Frances.  President Judy Genshaft has already expressed great concern for the USF community and so the decision has been made to allow the departmental/supervisor to make the decision to extend administrative leave for Tuesday, September 7, 2004 under the following guidelines:

  • Employee unable to report to work due to loss of power or flooding;

  • Employee unable to report to work due to the last minute school closing or childcare facility closing;
  • Employee believes the University was closed based on media announcements and was not contacted by the supervisor.
  • If an employee was contacted and notified that the University was open but failed to report to work, will need to use personal leave.

Additional questions or concerns should be directed to your Departmental Attendance & Leave Coordinator or Beverly Jerry, the USF Attendance & Leave Coordinator at extension 4-5717 or email bjerry@admin.usf.edu.
