"I Feel" Statements
An "I feel" message has three parts:
"I feel..."
Simply tell how you feel with a nonjudgmental, feeling word.
"I feel upset."
"When you..."
Describe what caused that feeling.
"I feel upset when you borrow my things without asking."
"I want..."
Simply and briefly state what you want to happen. Don't bring a laundry list. Simply say what you want.
"I feel upset when you borrow my things without asking. Please ask permission before borrowing my things."
