Internet Use - Passing the Time or Addiction?
Computer-use and college students go hand in hand. It is easy to get sidetracked when working on a project, as thoughts of Facebook updates are much more appealing than working on your research paper. The Internet can steal your mind away if you are not careful.
Here are four tips for limiting Internet time:
The key is choosing who we will have relationships with and how we will act and reacat in those relationships. Most healthy relationships have similar characteristics of:
- Have a Plan - Plan your online time. You need to know what you are going to do while you are online, otherwise you are going to get distracted and spend more time than you intended.
- Log out- Disconnect from the Internet when you are finished what you had planned to do.
- Get up - Move from behind your desk. If you stay there, you will be tempted to go back online.
- Do Other Things - To join a club or organization, check out the Center for Student Involvement, or visit the Campus Recreation Center to sign up for an intramural team or try a group exercise class.
